Walnut Grove Festival
It’s not often that your Road Trips Foodie finds a festival centered on the black walnut, but here’s one. The Walnut Grove Festival takes place October 17, 2015, at Grouseland, the Georgian/Federal home at 3 West Scott Street, Vincennes, Indiana.
Completed in 1804, Grouseland served as the home of William Henry Harrison and his family when he was Governor of the Indiana Territory (1800-1812). (Yes, this is the same Harrison elected president of the United States in 1840 and served a total of 31 days.)
Although the focus is on history — Harrison negotiated a treaty with Native tribes in that Walnut Grove more than 200 years ago) — the organizers promise plenty of black walnuts. Not to mention historic reenactors, a buffalo chip throw, music and other frontier delights.
