Watercress Festival
Think about it, Road Trips Foodies. Where else would watercress be celebrated than England?
Yes, the Watercress Festival takes place in Alresford, Hampshire, Saturday (May 17, 2015).
It’s a street party with jazz musicians and Morris-dancers performing while the ‘Watercress King and Queen’ give out the first of the season’s watercress harvest to festival-goers.
A farmers’ market in the center of town offers locally grown produce.
Of course there are contests, two for ways to eat watercress: Watercress Festival Award for “the most creative/interesting/mind-blowingly awesome” use of watercress, and an award for the most innovative use of watercress.
The World Watercress Eating Championship (pictured) involves munching your way through two 80g bags of fresh watercress and washing them down with a small bottle of water in the fastest time. (The Guinness World Record is currently held by Glen Walsh who completed it in 32 seconds in 2013.)
