florida_citrus_scallop-seasonRoad Trips Foodies know about fishing for dinner, but what about “shelling”?

From June 27 through September 24, 2015, scalloping is in season in Florida’s Citrus County. It’s part snorkeling experience, part treasure dive and saltwater fishing trip. Wind up your day at a local eatery, where the chef will cook up your catch for you.

Citrus County’s bay scallops sit in seagrass beds under five or six feet of water on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. Scalloping requires little more than a snorkel, a mask and a mesh bag. Note: Scallopers over the age of 16 also need a Florida fishing license.
