Italian Street Festival in Indianapolis
Indianapolis has a flourishing Italian-American community that celebrates its heritage each year with a street festival held at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, the Italian national parish, at the intersection of East and Stevens streets on the near southeast side of Indy.
The festival, set for June 12 and 13, 2009, features more than 25 different Italian meats, pastas, salads and desserts. There is live music and dancing, plus games for everyone.
On the Saturday of the festival, there is an early afternoon mass at Holy Rosary. Later in the day a colorful, Italian-style religious procession takes place, which is followed by a second mass.
The festival is sponsored by the Italian Heritage Society of Indiana.
