Mussel Man Teams Up With Oyster Man to Revive PEI Restaurant

Stephen Stewart, President of Confederation Cove Mussel Co., and Champion Oyster Shucker John Bil have formed a partnership to purchase and restore a seasonal restaurant on Prince Edward Island’s North Shore.

Most recently known as Hurricanez, the 100-seat ocean view restaurant will be returned to its roots with the name Ship to Shore Restaurant & Lounge. It will open May 9, just in time for Mothers’ Day.

Its a fantastic location, with some great history, that had been kind of carelessly treated over the past few year, says Bil, and we wanted to rejuvenate the place, while still acknowledging that there have been lots of great meals and great times at this spot.

According to Stewart, the former owners decided to pull the plug on this season at the last minute and it was something in his community that he didnt want to see disappear. Hes looking at it as a great opportunity to keep jobs in his area, while also giving him a showcase for the mussels that have made him one of the biggest grower/processors in North America.

Stewart has just returned from a stint in New York City, where he consulted on the opening of a PEI-themed restaurant there. Its no easier to open a restaurant on PEI, than it is in New York, he comments, but it will definitely have a better view.
