Watermelon Festival
It’s the 37th year for the Watermelon Festival taking place July 17 and 18, 2015, in Sullivan’s Hollow, Mize, Mississippi.
The fest, first held in 1978, takes place amid the pines, oaks, dogwoods and magnolias (not to mention dudzu) in South Central Mississippi, home of Smith County watermelons.
It’s sponsored by, and proceeds benefit, the Mize Volunteer Fire Department.
This is a down home fest — a time to eat all the watermelon you can handle, take part in seed spitting and watermelon eating contests and listen to local music.
