Sassafras Tea Festival
Of course Road Trips Foodies know that the roots of sassafras trees can be steeped to make tea and once were used in the flavoring of traditional root beer.
But did you know that you can taste the real deal at the annual Sassafras Tea Festival? The annual event (which includes and Civil War Living History) will be held April 25 and 26, 2015, in Vernon, Indiana.
There will be battle reenactments at the Muscatatuck State Park, and living history camps set up in the courthouse lawn in Vernon.
The Jennings County Historical Society Museum, 134 East Brown Street, Vernon, Indiana, will be open all weekend for exhibit browsing, sassafras tea, and concessions (check out the homemade soups, ham and beans, cornbread and homemade pies).
