Open Cellars for St. Martin’s Day
If you’re in Central Europe this month, Road Trips Foodies, consider a side trip to the Czech Republic for St. Martin’s Day (November 15, 2014). You can celebrate autumn in the Moravian countryside with a wine degustation, cymbal music, and pig-sticking specialties (oh, my!).
The feast of St. Martin and the opening of the first St. Martin’s wine are celebrated by winemakers in the Czech town of Velké Pavlovice.
Twenty cellars will be opened and — in addition to great wine — you can also try St. Martin’s goose and pig-sticking specialties at local restaurants and selected winemakers. There will be songs with cymbal music in the evening.
The price of admission includes unlimited consumption in all open cellars, coupons for purchasing wine, a degustation glass, wine list with a map, pen, and bag for your glass. If you read Czech, there’s more information online.
(Note: St. Martin’s feast day actually is November 11, but it’s difficult to have a wine-centric event on a Tuesday.)
