Watermelon Fest in Texas

All sorts of activities are planned during the 25th annual Watermelon Festival set for July 18 and 19, 2014, in Hempstead, Texas.
While a watermelon auction highlights the weekend along with watermelon eating and seed-spitting contests, there’s also a BBQ cook-off, pet parade, carnival, wine tasting, fun run, basketball tournament, carnival,street dance, quilt show, arts, craft and food vendors.
It’s all sponsored by the Hempstead Chamber of Commerce.
