Sparta Butterfest

Wisconsin may be (officially) the Badger State, but Road Trips Foodies know it as the Dairy State.
It’s logical that the annual Butterfest (this year’s the 30th) takes place this weekend at the corner of Montgomery and Rusk in Sparta, Wisconsin. According to the official history, it was originally named for the town’s award-winning buttermakers who worked at the local milk plant.
The Butterfest is Thursday through Sunday (June 5 through 8, 2014). There’s an events schedule online.
There are a whole lot of events (from a queen contest and parade to a carnival and a quilt show — not to mention a milking contest.
