Where to Eat Breakfast: Pittsburgh
If you’re headed to P&G Pamela’s Diner, plan ahead. That’s because this popular Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, eatery doesn’t accept credit cards. It’s cash only.
Your Road Trips Foodie went to the one on the Strip — that narrow area of land between the Allegheny River and Pennsylvania 380 that used to be all industrial/wholesale market uses but is transitioning to trendy shops and restaurants as an historic district with a Blue Collar vibe.
There’s a full breakfast menu with everything a hungry carnivore could want, but the real reason you go there is for “Pamela’s Famous Crêpe Hotcakes”. Yes, they’re flat and round like crêpes, but there’s nothing “French” about them.
Pamela’s hotcakes have edges that are are lacy, brown and crisp. You can order ’em plain (like I did) or stuffed with all sorts of goodies (think: bananas & walnuts, bananas & chocolate chips, strawberries or blueberries, complete with a generous spritz of whipped cream).
Once you’ve checked your pockets for money, check the clock on your cellphone. There are six locations, but the one in The Strip is open just from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and never on Sundays. You can look up the hours for each location online.
