Vermont Fiddlehead Festival
The foragers of wild edibles known as fiddleheads can be found across the globe, Road Trips Foodies. However, this seasonal delicacy is most commonly harvested and eaten in the maritime provinces of Canada and in the northeastern United States, especially Maine and Vermont. (Some consider it to be the state vegetable of Vermont)
So, this foodie fest is especially timely: a Fiddlehead Festival will be held May 24 and 25, 2014. The main event takes place under a tent at 183 Vermont Route 100, West Dover, Vermont, on Saturday, complete with a fiddlehead cooking contests and vendors of all things fiddlehead not to mention Vermont crafts and foods.
And, just what are fiddleheads? They’re the emerald green stems of “newborn” ostrich ferns (Matteuccia struthiopteris) mark the onset of spring in Vermont — they’re available in early to mid-May).
It’s sponsored by the Mount Snow Valley Chamber of Commerce.
