Fête de la Coquille Saint-Jacques

Submitted by on March 28, 2014 – 8:07 amNo Comment

france_erquy_scallopSeaside towns are known for their seafood festivals. The Fête de la Coquille Saint-Jacques is one of the tastiest.

Visitors can buy fresh scallops, meet fishermen, watch the fishing, meet the fishermen and (most crucial) taste the scallops during the Scallop Festival, set for April 12 and 13, 2014, in Erquy, France.

Scallop fishing takes place only between October and April. It is highly regulated to protect stocks: two days’ fishing a week for 45 minutes a day.

This fishing port on Brittany’s Côtes d’Armor lives in rhythm with the tides. Local fishermen, (who run trawlers, spider crab or fish nets, lobster and cuttlefish pots, scallop and clam dredgers) bring in more than 12,000 tons of fish and shellfish each year, including 2,200 tons of scallops).
