“Whole Hive” Dinner
Gonna be anywhere near eastern Kentucky in a couple of weeks, Road Trips Foodies? There’s a special four-course dinner planned February 21 and 22, 2014, in AZUR Restaurant & Patio, Beaumont Centre, 3070 Lakecrest Circle, Lexington, Kentucky.
The occasion is the local showing of the Disney movie “Wings of Life” at the Central Public Library Farish Theatre of Central Public Library, 140 East Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky.
The movie is a part of the 2014 Good Foods Board Film Series in conjunction with the Buckley Hills Audubon Society and Wild Ones Lexington. The film will be shown twice: at 1 p.m. February 22, 2014, and 6:30 p.m. February 24, 2014. Both movie showings are free and highlight local food-floral networks being established by community partnerships in the Bluegrass.
Inspired by the documentary, which explores the importance of flowers and their pollinators, chef Jeremy Ashby has created a “Whole Hive” menu utilizing the “best of the bee”: honey, honeycomb, mead and pollen. The cost is $45 per person plus tax and gratuity.
The Saturday matinée of the film will be followed by a lecture from Dr. Jason Courter, assistant professor of biology at Malone University, entitled “Unlocking the Mysteries of Hummingbird Migration with Emerging Networks of Citizen Science Data.” Children are welcome to attend.
The Monday evening showing will be followed by a panel of speakers, including Buckley Hills Audubon Society president Tony Brusate and Kentucky State Beekeepers Association president Tammy Horn.
