red-apple-2Today — December 1 — is National Eat a Red Apple Day. Well, why not? An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Might as well make today’s apple a red one.

The origins of the holiday are murky. The staff at National Whatever Day was unable to discover the first Eat a Red Apple Day.

It’s said that there are more than 7,500 cultivars of apple — one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees that’s believed to have originated in Asia (well, it did play a role in the Garden of Eden.)

Apples are, however, darn tasty. What’s your favorite? The American standard Red Delicious? Jonathan? Macintosh? Empire? Courtland? Jonalicious? Gala? Honey Crisp?
