Hastings Herring Fair
Here’s an offer you haven’t heard before, Road Trips Foodies: if you’re in 1066 country next weekend, you have the chance to learn how to smoke herring — and sample it while being serenaded by shanty singers. Oh, my!
The Hastings Herring Fair, is November 9 and 10, 2014, in the Stade Open Space of Old Town Hastings, East Sussex, England.
That town, of course, gave its name to that well-known 1066 skirmish — the Battle of Hastings — wherein the last King of the Saxons was defeated by William of Normandy.
Talks, films and exhibitions in the Stade Hall and Fishermen’s Museum will tell the history of the herring fishery
