Mediterranean Fig Days
On the last weekend in September, the medieval village of Vézenobres near Alès, Gard, France, holds Mediterranean Fig Days to celebrate this fruit so symbolic of the region.
A large number of events are held on those two days (this year: September 28 and 29, 2013) including a farmers’ market, recipe presentation and a procession of residents in Middle-Age dress through the town.
Every year, a production area or region is invited to take part in the event: the Andalusia region of Spain, Italy’s Tuscany, Greece, Lebanon and Tunisia.
There’s more information on Mediterranean Fig Days and on visiting Vézenobres online and also on visiting the South of France.
