Apple Pickin’ Jubilee
You’ve got plenty of time to get to north Georgia for the Apple Pickin’ Jubilee at Hillcrest Orchards, 9696 Hwy. 52 East, Ellijay, Georgia (map).
It started last Saturday (September 7, 2013), but it continues every weekend through the end of October. Admission is $7 (the petting farm is $3 additional). Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The jubilee features U-pick apples, cow milking, pig races, mule and tractor-drawn wagon rides, playgrounds with giant slides, pedal cart and trike rides, and a Farmhouse and Moonshine Museum. At the petting farm children can hug and feed baby farm animals.
Road Trips Foodies are advised to “come hungry because there’s more food than you can hold”: homemade fried apple pies, apple cider doughnuts, apple fritters, homemade ice cream and fudge, fresh cold apple cider, hamburgers, hotdogs, barbecue, chicken on a stick and grilled corn on the cob.
