The Rocky Mountain Tea Festival
The 14th annual Rocky Mountain Tea Festival takes place August 3 and 4, 2013, in the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, 1770 13th Street, Boulder, Colorado (map).
All sorts of events are planned, including workshops, a tea bazaar and a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
The Cyanoyu Japanese Tea Ceremony Group will demonstrate the art of Japanese tea ceremony at 6 p.m. August 3. After setting up the stage with Ryurei tea table used in outdoor ceremony, a screen for a back drop and all the essential implements for serving tea, they will perform in Kimono a full tea ceremony with narration.
The presentation includes explanation of the history of the tea ceremony and its cultural significance. Depending on the size of the audience, audience members may be invited to join them for a hands-on experience and serve tea to all the guests so they can get a “taste” of the Cyanoyu as well as a visual experience.
It’s worth going just to see the teahouse, a gift to the city of Boulder from its Sister City of Dushanbe, Tajikistan (map). The elaborate, handcrafted teahouse is the only one of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.
