Taste of Chicago
If you think the Windy City’s known only for Deep Dish Pizza, you’d better get yourself to Taste of Chicago, set for July 10 through 14, 2013, in the Illinois city’s lakefront Grant Park (map).
This is the largest of the food fest genre, featuring more than 300 items from vendors including restaurants ranging from the legendary Billy Goat Inn to The Smoke Daddy plus — new this year — food trucks and pop-ups. An eating map is online.
Admission is free; food and beverage tickets are 12 for $8. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 10, 11 and 12, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 13 and 14; ticket sales end at 8:30 p.m.
Of course, there’s live music, including Robert Plant, Robin Thicke and Jill Scott at the band shell and local bands on the smaller stage.
I’d tell you about the special sit-down meals, but they’re already sold out. You will have a chance, though to sit in on a cooking demonstration, held each day during the taste.
