Serve It Up Local in Maryland
Spotlighting local farms, local foods, Appalachian culinary heritage and healthy eating — that’s the goal of Serve It Up Local: Celebrating Farms and Food Fest.
The event takes place from 12:30 to 9 p.m. August 10, 2013, in the Ag Heritage Hall on the Garrett County Fairgrounds, 270 Mosser Road, McHenry, Maryland (map).
The fest starts with a Lunch Cook Off — judged by the lunch guests. Using as many locally grown ingredients as possible, each competing chef will create a tasty morsel for you to sample.
The Local Foods Fest will follow, with local food cooking demonstrations, farmer demonstrations, culinary heritage displays and live music.
An evening Local Sips Social will include samples of regional wines and beers plus farm-to-table stories from Chef Spike Gjerde of Baltimore’s Woodberry Kitchen.
Serve It Up Local ends with a 50-Mile Meal Dinner, where the goal is to source as many of the foods as possible from farms within 50 miles.
