maine_wheatThere’s nothing like fresh baked bread, and if it’s home-made? Wow!

Road Trips Foodies who like to get up to their elbows in flour might want to add this event to their travel schedule: the 2013 Kneading Conference and Artisan Bread Fair.

A free festival celebrating local grains, artisan breads and Maine Foods, the fair works to preserve and promote grain traditions from earth to hearth.

The Kneading Conference begins with a grist mill tour on July 24, 2013, and continues July 25 and 26, 2013.

Keynote speaker is Richard Miscovich, who has been baking in wood-fired ovens since 1995 and leading workshops at the Kneading Conference since 2008. Richard teaches artisan bread baking at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, and also teaches wood-fired oven cooking and bread baking classes around the country.

The bread fair be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 27, 2013, in the Skowhegan State Fairgrounds, 33 Constitution Avenue, Skowhegan, Maine (map). More than 40 vendors are expected.

The events are sponsored by the Maine Grain Alliance, with support from King Arthur Flour.
