Pembrokeshire Fish Week
Lobster, crab, mackerel, mussels, sea bass – if you love eating fish or shellfish, there’s a feast in store with Pembrokeshire Fish Week, set for June 22 through 30, 2013, in Pembrokshire, Wales, United Kingdom (map).
One of the “tastiest festivals in Europe”, Fish Week has a wide range of eating-out events from tasting menus to gourmet seafood evenings, sharing platters to tapas or good old fish and chips.
Join Café Mor at their Flagship beach hut in Freshwater West for dressed crab, lobster rolls, paella or get up early for the sunrise seashore forage and breakfast, not forgetting their seaweed fest.
New this year is a Seafood tasting menu at Wolfscastle Country Hotel, Haverfordwest. At The Shed, Porthgain, you can try lobster, served in three different ways on June 23, 2013.
Also new are fish specials from Somethings Cooking’s new lava grill, fish curry dishes in the newly-opened Indi Bangla restaurant, Bucci Bar, Milford Marina and live music and a fish BBQ at the Golden Lion, Newport, all on June 23, 2013.
Enjoy a taste of Spain at Casa Maria in Haverfordwest on June 26, 2013, with a ‘five course tapas menu’, to include two fish dishes and a complimentary glass of sangria. Then head to The Griffin Inn, Dale on June 27, 2013, to join local fisherman for a six-course seafood taster menu and a talk on the seafoods you will be sampling.
Come for a fish and vegetarian Feast with Sea Shanties and Ceilidh Band at the Druidstone Hotel, Haverfordwest or enjoy a delicious four-course tasting menu of local fish specialties at The Mulberry, Saundersfoot.
Try a ‘Five-Course Seafood Tasting Menu’ at Hotel Plas Hyfryd, Narberth, a six-course Seafood wine tasting course at the Griffin Inn, Dale, or a ‘Seven Course Fish Tasting Menu’ at Hammet House, Cardigan.
There’s also a fish feast at Whitesands Café, Whitesands, a crab and lobster night at The Swan Inn, Little Haven, Tapas style supper with live jazz at The Lavender Café/Raul Speek Gallery in Solva and seafood paella with a Café Mor twist, divine Rioja and live music at The Boat House Tea Rooms, Stackpole Quay.
Meet the local fishermen and enjoy a fresh paella on the waterside at the Griffin Inn, Dale on June 29, 2013, then end the week on June 30, 2013, with a seafood BBQ at The Bar, Neyland.
Many restaurants and cafés have fresh seafood menus every day during Fish Week. Look out for Fishy Breakfasts and Swimming Suppers at Cefn-Y-Dre Country House, Fishguard. Fishy Feasts at Café Thirty Five, Solva, Fish & Wine for Nine Nine Nine at The Refrectory, St. Davids, Fish Pie with a glass of wine, courtesy of Celtic Wine at Salutation Inn, Felindre Farchog, Afternoon teas with a Fishy twist! at St Brides Spa Hotel, Saundersfoot and Hearty Helpings at The Buccaneer Inn, Tenby.
At that’s just the beginning. There also are fish cookery and preparation demonstrations, angling competitions and coaching, on-water adventure and outdoor activities, waterway travel, environmental and educational activities, arts, craft and culture.
Pembrokeshire Fish Week is organized by Pembrokeshire County Council and part-funded by the Welsh Government.
