Both fresh and pickled asparagus are promised at the Asparagus Festival set for May 17 and 18, 2013, in the lakeshore village of Empire, Michigan.
The 10th annual fest starts with a “dance and pig roast” from 7 to 10 p.m. May 17, 2013, along Front Street (admission: $5). The pork’s from Art’s Tavern, the beer from Right Brain Brewery and the music from the Benzie Playboys.
On May 18, 2013, there’s a whole host of activities, including an Asparagus Recipe Contest and Cook-Off at 11 a.m. and the 2 p.m. “The Ode to Asparagus” poetry competition.
