The Kitchenette
OK, so this one’s a little off beat. We Road Trips Foodies obviously adore cooking utensils, but have we ever considered alternative uses?
If you’re driving in southern California early next month, consider a detour to Los Angeles, California, for Fowler Out Loud: The Kitchenette. Yes, that’s the name of the ensemble making music with pots and tongs and whatever.
The free concert starts at 6 p.m. March 6, 2014, in the Fowler Museum at the University of California at Los Angeles (campus map).
A select group from the UCLA band the Big Kitchen, the Kitchenette is an acoustic reggae/rocksteady/ska group that blends American and Jamaican folk and popular music. In a set reminiscent of the early days of reggae and first-wave ska, they pay homage to greats such as Desmond Dekker, Alton Ellis, and Bob Marley, and are inspired by modern artists such as Vic Ruggiero and Chris Murray.
Audiences are invited to dance, sing along, and join the Kitchenette in a feast of merrymaking.
