Jacksonville Tomato Fest
Somehow a Road Trips Foodie doesn’t think of the Lone Star State and tomatoes in the same thought, but we probably should.
After all, the 29th annual Tomato Fest takes place June 8, 2013, on Commerce and Austin Streets in downtown Jacksonville, Texas.
Sponsored by the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, the all-day event includes a Tomato-Eating Contest, Tomato Shoot, Tomato Mashing Contest, Tomato Peeling Contest and a Tomato Shed Tour. Oh, yeah: there’ll be non-tomatoey activities, too, from a Motorcycle, Tractor and Antique Car Show to a history display to tournaments for fishing, soccer and tennis.
Besides, this Texas tomato festival has something uniquely southwest: the world’s largest bowl of salsa. Yee haw!
