Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival
The next Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival is set for October 12, 13 and 14, 2012.
It’s the 11th year for the foodie fest, held in Port Angeles on Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula.
Dungeness crab (Cancer magister) are crustaceans, having an exterior skeleton or shell. The shell is purple-tinged, grayish-brown on the back, with white tipped claws. They average six to seven inches across the back. The sweetest of all crabs, Dungeness come from Washington and Alaskan waters.
The oldest commercial shellfish fishery on the Pacific Coast began in the small village of Dungeness near Sequim, Washington in 1848.
