Sure there’s authentic sassafras tea during the festival in Vernon, Indiana, on April 28 and 29, 2012, but there’s also a chance to watch Civil War skirmishes.
Yes, it’s time for the Sassafras Tea Festival & Civil War Living History. The skirmishes are scheduled for 1 p.m. each day at the Muscatatuck County Park (map), while the tea (as well as homemade pies, sweet breads and cookies) will be served at the Jennings County Historical Society, 134 East Brown Street (map) and across the street on the courthouse lawn in Vernon.
The funds from the food sales help maintain the society’s museum.
