Telluride Opens Two New Eateries
Foie Gras Torchon and Duck Rillete, Quiche Lorraine, Duck Confit and Elk Sausage Cassoulet. Lamb and Chimay Ale Stew, Lobster Gnocchi, Croque Monsieur and Madame with quail egg and shaved black truffles.
That’s why Road Trips Foodies go skiing, right? For the chance to eat like royalty. Sort of.
Anyway, that’s just part of the menu at a new restaurant in Telluride, Colorado, called Bon Vivant. At the top of the Polar Queen Express and accessible for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, this country French restaurant features a 1500 square-foot deck under a 39-foot umbrella and a menu featuring classics from crêpes to cassoulets and chocolat chaud.
The bar at the base of the umbrella features craft cocktails and beers including the French 105, named for Telluride’s 105mm avalanche control Howitzers, with Kru82 Vodka and Blanquette de Limon Champagne. Bon Vivant is open daily during the season from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Mountain Village’s restaurant and bar has been remodeled and renamed. Formerly the Hop Garden, Tomboy Tavern is now open with 32 local, craft beers on tap, expanded indoor seating and a full wraparound bar plus an outdoor beer garden under the big yellow umbrella (the grand opening party is Saturday, January 14, 2012).
On the menu: the Tavern Burger, schnitzel, and ahi sandwiches, salmon and steak entrees, salads, soups, mac & cheese, Nutella Vanilla Bean Milkshake and toast-your-own S’mores.
All together, the Telluride Ski Resort has nine restaurants.
