“Everybody” takes cooking classes in Italy or France, Road Trips Foodies. Do something completely different and take a cooking class on the island of Guernsey. Yes, the same place that Guernsey cattle were first bred.

Where?

Guernsey is a British Crown Dependency in the English Channel that’s arguably closer to France than the United Kingdom. It’s not part of of the United Kingdom, nor is it part of the European Union. And, yes, it has its own rich culinary tradition.

Explore its cuisine (heavy on seafood and dairy) with a one-day class at Sueco Cookery School, in St Peter Port (the capital city). The following (which emphasize hands-on involvement, quality ingredients and inspirational teaching) are offered:

  • Catch & Cook: Spend half day fishing on a charter boat, then on to the kitchen to prepare and cook your catch
  • The Secrets of a Good Sauce: Spend a day perfecting a range of hot and cold sauces
  • The Gourmet Student: This course is perfect for those wishing to develop their skills

Courses start from £75 per person, and if you want something just for you…well, that can be arranged.

For more information on visiting Guernsey, go online. The island’s name is of Viking origin, as is that of its neighboring island, Jersey.
