David Burke Kitchen Opens at The James New York
Even if the website isn’t quite up to speed, David Burke Kitchen has opened in The James New York, 23 Grand Avenue, New York, New York. The chef’s first collaboration with The James Hotels began with David Burke’s Primehouse in Chicago. The new SoHo restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The restaurant focuses on modern American food presented in the creative and whimsical style that is Burke’s trademark. The restaurant is a loft-like space with its own Treehouse Bar plus seating for 130 guests, including outdoor options when the weather warms up.
The interiors of David Burke Kitchen were designed by James Beard Award-winner Thomas Schlesser, inspired by the surrounding SoHo neighborhood, blending the cool, industrial simplicity of an airy loft with the rustic warmth of a country barn. Denim banquettes, a barn roof and a blackened steel bar top are just a few of Schlesser’s interesting touches. An open kitchen and glass-enclosed wine case allow guests a peek behind the scenes.
Burke’s theatrical style is reflected in the restaurant’s carving station, where a variety of meats are carved and whole-roasted fish, lobster and casseroles are plated in the center of the dining room.
