Barossa Vintage Festival
The Barossa Vintage Festival begins April 23 and runs through May 1, 2011. This wine-growing region of South Australia fetes the harvest throughout the Barossa Valley with vineyard tours, guided tastings and other food and music events about 70 kilometers northeast of Adelaide. (You do know that it’s coming up on autumn Down Under?)
A centerpiece are the wine workshops: taste a decade of shiraz from the same vineyard or sample wines from some of the world’s oldest grape vines). The Vintage Festival Parade on April 30 (a festival tradition since 1949) claims to be the longest parade in the Southern Hemisphere.
There really is enough to keep a Road Trips Foodie involved every day of the festival. (How about stopping by Bethany to check out the German heritage in this part of Oz or enjoying a picnic during a harp concert?)
