Planning a trip to England this year, Road Trips Foodies? Consider timing it to partake of a Culinary Master Class at the Swan Hotel in Lavenham, Suffolk, England (the hotel dates back to the 15th century, by the way).

Themes for upcoming classes are “Best of Suffolk” (February 24), “Fabulous Fish” (March 24), “Spring is in the Air” (April 28), “Mediterranean Cookery” (May 26), “Local Food Heros” (June 30), “Barbecue Time” (July 28), “Desserts & Decoration” (August 25), “Stress-Free Dinner Parties” (September 29), “Italian Classics” (October 27), “Getting Ready for Christmas” (November 24) and “Stress-Free Christmas” (December 8).

For £35.95 per person you can discover first-hand how Chef David Ryan creates some of his dishes. Held on the last Thursday of every month, the classes include a two-course lunch in the Gallery Restaurant with a glass of wine and coffee.

You’ll arrive at the Swan at 10:30 a.m., chat with Chef Ryan over coffee and homemade biscuits and then watch his cookery demonstration, which will include taste samplings, workshop notes and recipes to take home and try yourself. A Master Chef of Great Britain, his distinctive style focuses on modern British cuisine with French undertones.

After lunch you can take a leisurely stroll around the medieval streets of Lavenham, admire the many beautiful 15th and 16th century buildings and browse the boutiques and galleries. Of course, they’re hoping you’ll make a night of it and stay in one of The Swan’s character bedrooms from £180 for two. Steeped in history, the hotel has served as a hostelry for nearly 600 years. Today, its ancient oak beams and inglenook fireplaces blend with rich furnishings and modern luxuries. For more information and reservations, go online.
