Edible Institute Food & Drink Gala
Edible Institute, a weekend of talks, presentations, workshops, and local food and wine tastings, will be held January 29-30, 2011, in the Hotel Mar Monte, 1111 East Cabrillo Boulevard, Santa Barbara, California. Registration ($99 per person) is online.
The keynote address will be given by Joan Gussow, nutrition and education professor at Columbia University, a member of the National Organic Standards Board, and a board member at the Jessie Noyes Smith Foundation. Gussow is also on the Center for Food Safety’s Advisory Board and the Board of Overseers of the Chefs Collaborative.
Panel discussion topics include “The Future of Food Writing, Recipes and Cookbooks”, “Will Urban Ag Change the Way We Eat?”, “Journalists Talk Strategies for Writing About Big Ag”, “Activists and Advocacy: SOLE Food’s Message for Change” and “Mighty Wines: Small Family Producers Using Traditional Winemaking Methods”.
Immediately following the Edible Institute panel discussions, there will be a celebration of local food and drink at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (admission is included in the ticket price). The institute is sponsored by Edible Communities. For more information, email Kelly Day.
