Marshall County Blueberry Festival
Each Labor Day Weekend, Indiana’s Marshall County salutes the blueberry with a rip-roaring festival centered on the town of Plymouth. This year, the 43rd annual Blueberry Festival is September 3-6, 2010, in Centennial Park, 1660 North Michigan Street, Plymouth, Indiana. This northern Indiana county, still largely agricultural, at one time produced 1/3 of Indiana’s blueberries.
Unfortunately, Road Trips Foodies, blueberry picking season has come and gone by the time the festival rolls around. But this does not mean you cannot find the best in blueberry treats. The food area has blueberry ice cream, blueberry sundaes, blueberry cheesecake, blueberry pies, muffins, shakes, cups of blueberries, and what they assure us are the best blueberry doughnut on the planet!
Of course, there’s the usual panoply of festival goings on: more than 300 arts and crafts vendors, 100 food vendors and three stages with regional and national acts from country, gospel, jazz, rock to folk. There’s even a 5K run hot air balloon launches and fireworks. The whole schedule is here.
