Calgary’s 2009 BBQ on the Bow Festival

BBQ on the BowRoad Tripping Foodies are setting their sites on Calgary, Alberta, for some Canadian-style competitive barbecuing at the 2009 BBQ on the Bow Festival. The 17th annual event will be held at Eau Claire Festival Market along the Bow River September 5 and 6, 2009. If you can make it for only one day, aim for the second — with a full day of cooking demos in the BBQ on the Bow Kitchen, entertainment and lots of good eating. “Alberta Championship” BBQ teams vie for recognition as the Grand Champion by earning the most points in all four required categories: chicken, pork ribs, pork butt (shoulder) and beef brisket. (There is also a fifth category called “Chef’s Choice” but the points earned in this category do not count towards the BBQ on the Bow “Canadian Championship” — just bragging rights.) Competing teams are made up of a ‘Chief Cook’ and up to three assistant cooks. For you barbecue aficionados: this competition is Kansas City Style BBQ.
