Middle Eastern Festival of Indianapolis
Immigrants from the Middle East — primarily Syria and Lebanon — started arriving in Central Indiana about a century ago. Many of them banded together to form St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Indianapolis in 1926. For the last fourteen years, they’ve been staging a Middle Eastern Festival featuring the music, food and culture of their homeland. This year’s festival will be July 17-19, 2009, on the church grounds at 4020 North Sherman Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana.
On the menu are lamb shanks, kibbee, falafel, kafta, gyros, grape leaves, spinach pies, falafel, pastries, many desserts and more, all priced separately at $2 and up. You can buy $10 worth of food tickets in advance, and save the price of admission, or just turn up, pay $5 at the door (kids under 12 are free), and get your food coupons after browsing the offerings.
