Submitted by on September 6, 2017 – 8:58 amNo Comment

“Gene’s Autumn Tea” takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. September 16, 2017, at the Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site, 1205 Pleasant Point, Rome City, Indiana. The annual event benefits the Gene Stratton-Porter Society and the restoration of the gardens and the grounds.

Guests will enjoy tea delicacies such as zucchini cheddar bread, cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad in phyllo cups, lemon-pistachio mini bundt cakes, dark chocolate scones and a variety of hand-blended teas while listening to guest speaker, Lisa Conrad.

Conrad, the district media integration specialist for DeKalb Central School District, will talk about monarch butterflies, their life cycle and their habitats. As a citizen scientist, Conrad has participated in Symbolic Monarch Butterfly Migration, continues to tag monarchs for the University of Kansas Monarch Watch, and reports observation and sightings with the Annenberg Learner Journey North mobile application. One of her September tagged monarchs was recovered in Central Mexico in February of the following year, traveling more than 2,000 miles.

Seating for “Gene’s Autumn Tea” is limited and reservations are required by September 12, 2017, by calling 1-260-854.3790.

Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site is part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites. The Cabin at Wildflower Woods on the shore of Sylvan Lake was the home of Indiana author Gene Stratton-Porter.
