Urbanna Oyster Festival
It’s this weekend: the 56th annual Urbanna Oyster Festival is set for November 1 and 2, 2013, along the Rappahannock River in Urbanna, Virginia (note: this is a rural community with a land mass of less than half a square mile in a sheltered deep-water creek on a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay — it’s one of seven different oyster regions in the state).
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. You’ll find oysters, of course, but also a parade, queen contest and (of course) oyster-shucking contest.
Did you know, Road Trips Foodies, that Virginia is known as the Oyster Capital of the East Coast and that the state is now the largest producer of fresh, farm-raised oysters in America?
