Cherry Pies at a Winery

Submitted by on August 3, 2012 – 7:41 amNo Comment

When they’re ripe, you gotta work fast. Yes, it’s time to make cherry wine and to celebrate the season, Balistreri Vineyards, 1946 East 66th Avennue, Denver, Colorado, also makes some cherry pies.

The Montmorency Sour Pie Cherries are coming from Hotchkiss, Colorado, this year. At the winery, they’ll be running ’em through the old time, hand-crank, grape crusher this week not only for wine, but also for pies.

The cherry pies (baked by pastry chef Jessica Scott and Blackbelly Catering) will be on offer today (August 3) through August 5, 2012. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

All weekend long Road Trips Foodies lucky enough to be driving through Denver can stop to watch the bakig of Montmorency Sour Pie Cherries in a homemade crust and then enjoy a fresh slice ($3). Better yet — you can take along a whole pie ($16) to share later.

Don’t forget a bottle of Balistreri’s Colorado Cherry Wine.
