Brusselicious 2012
It’s hard to imagine a Road Trips Foodie who isn’t dreaming of a trip to Belgium this year.
Throughout 2012, Brussels, the capital city, is staging nearly one hundred events associated with gastronomy in the region.
Brusselicious puts the spotlight on all the different aspects of gourmet living in Brussels. The highlight will be the traditional recipes, the food stalls, the chocolate, “forgotten and rediscovered” vegetables, the countless types of beers and other culinary specialities. Chefs in the city have accepted the challenge to update traditional favorites with their own special slant to conjure up unsuspected savors.
The celebration starts with Brusselicious XXL, an exhibition of 35 sculptures, some of which measure five meters high, representing popular Belgian products such as mussels, chips, Brussels sprouts, chocolate bars (see photo) and beer.
A year-long series of themed dinners is planned, including a medieval Ommegang banquet and Mussels & Chips. More than a week is devoted to chocolate (November 1 through 11, 2012). A series of movie showings ends in a tasting related to the meals in the film. In November and December, there’s a Black Russian cocktail challenge (the drink was born in Brussels in 1949).
Well, you get the idea! All the details are online.
