Shrimp-Eating Contest
It’s certain that there’ll be lots of food, merchandise and craft vendors at the Ninth annual Desert Shrimp Fest at Community Park, 202 North Euclid, Gila Bend, Arizona, November 5 and 6, 2011 — not to mention the shrimp-eating contest.
What’s less certain, Road Trips Foodies, is whether the town’s most famous visitor will be in attendance.
Yes, Prince Harry of Great Britain is at Gila Bend Auxiliary Air Force Base for a couple of months of Apache helicopter training. The mayor, Ron Henry, has invited Captain Wales, but there’s been no official response as yet.
In any case, prepare to chow down on coconut shrimp, fried shrimp, shrimp scampi, shrimp cocktails and fish tacos. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. November 5 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. November 6. Look for Gila Bend near the intersection of I-8 and I-85.
