A Fitting Finale to National Ice Cream Month
OK, Road Trips Foodies: surely you’ve celebrated ice cream month all during July, but there’s something special (or at least different) next month.
The Indiana State Fair’s “star food” will be fried ice cream.
If you’re wandering Indiana August 5 through 21, 2011, stop by the Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 East 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, and sample this taste treat for $5. The ice cream booth will be (no surprise) on the fair’s “Main Street” across from the Pepsi Coliseum.
It was created by Bob and Ivy Walsh, Baskin-Robbins vendors in Muncie, Indiana. Evidently, they rolled vanilla ice cream in soybean meal, fried it in soybean oil, and topped it with whipped cream, chocolate and caramel sauces. (Did I mention that it’s the Year of the Soybean at the Indiana State Fair?)
