Wine and Food Walk in Levanto
La Mangialonga is a wine-and-food walk through the Valley of Levanto in Italy that’s scheduled for May 8, 2011. The walk features stops in various villages, with tastings of traditional foods plus musical entertainment.
There are two itineraries. The first follows a track starting at the square of the church of the Madonna della Guardia (100 meters from the railway station in Levanto — that’s the town’s coat of arms at left) and then goes through Fossato, Lizza, Lavaggiorosso, Groppo, Dosso, Casella, Ghiare and ends up by the local club Anspi “Don Casarin” in San Gottardo.
The second one starts from the Madonna della Guardia and travels the western part of the valley, going across Vignana, Pastine, Ridarolo, Gallona, Legnano, Chiesanuova and Fontona, ending up in San Gottardo also.
Along the way, the participants may visit the old windmills, the renovated olive presses and the private wine cellars, where the locals welcome the excursionists by offering them snacks made on the spot, with pork salted meats and cheeses.
