Barbecue in Tennessee
BBQ Boot Camp will be held May 17-19, 2011, at the Rel Maples Institute of Culinary Arts at Walters State Community College Sevier County Campus, 1720 Old Newport Highway, Sevierville, Tennessee. It includes three nights of classes from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
David Hair, former team member of three-time world champion team “Jack’s Old South”, will be the featured instructor for backyard grilling and how to prepare ribs and pork butt for competition cooking. Chef Catherine Hallman will present the final night’s class: Pastries & Desserts .
Road Trips Foodies can sign up for any one of the classes at $75 each, or for all three at $200.
The event leads up to Sevierville’s seventh annual Bloomin’ BBQ & Bluegrass, set for May 20 and 21, 2011. This family-friendly event will once again bring barbecue cook teams from all over the United States to eastern Tennessee to compete for $15,000 in cash and prizes during the Bush’s Best Tennessee State Championship Cook Off. Rounding out the event are bluegrass music, arts and crafts, kids’ games and the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition honoring Sevierville’s favorite hometown girl, Dolly Parton. Admission to Bloomin’ BBQ & Bluegrass and concerts are free.
