Trailing of the Sheep

Submitted by on September 17, 2010 – 12:01 pmNo Comment

The 14th annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival takes place October 8-10, 2010, in Ketchum and Hailey, Idaho.

There are activities that don’t center around eating, Road Trips Foodies, but we know that’s what we look for first. All the yummy options are listed online.

Now for the rest of the schedule:
October 8 starts with afternoon workshops that feature cooking lamb with gourmet chefs and working with fiber. Friday evening enjoy the Art and Lamb Foodie Fest and then an evening featuring Alisa Smith, author of the bestsellers, The 100-Mile Diet and Plenty. A panel of experts and storytellers will follow the presentation.

October 9 is the Sheep Folklife Fair in Hailey, featuring regional artisans working with wool: shearing, carding, spinning and weaving and herding sheep demonstrations, Peruvian musicians and dancers, Oinkari Basque dancers, the Boise Highlanders, bagpipers and drummers, sheep wagon displays, children’s activities, wool and crafts shops and (f course) food. New this year is a Fiber Fest with workshops, competitions and demonstrations.

October 10 is the Trailing of the Sheep Parade, a nearly 150 year old tradition led by one of the local sheep ranching families as well as historic sheep wagons, musicians and dancers. The Trailing of the Sheep barbecue and sheepherder’s walk follow.
