Learn How to Make Cheese at Home
Now here’s something this Road Trips Foodie has always wanted to learn: how to make cheese in my very own kitchen! Those of us wandering around Kalamazoo, Michigan, next week have the chance to sit in on a workshop in that very subject, courtesy of “Eat Local, Kalamazoo”.
Gary Colles of Lansing, Michigan, will demonstrate simple recipes to make at home, using nothing more than basic kitchen equipment: a large stainless steel pot, a slotted spoon, a meat thermometer, cheesecloth and a stovetop are the necessities.
“Curds and Whey: Making Cheese at Home” starts at 7 p.m. July 13, 2010, in the Kalamazoo Public Library, 315 South Rose Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan. The focus will be making cheese curds (“squeaky cheese”) from goat’s milk.
No registration required for this workshop, which is free and open to the public. “Eat Local, Kalamazoo” is a program of Fair Food Matters.
