Fresh Berries and Farmers’ Markets in North Carolina
Road Trips Foodies already traveling along the Atlantic in the southeast know that it’s strawberry, blueberry, and blackberry season in the Cape Fear Coast of North Carolina. At Lewis Nursery & Farms, 6509 Gordon Road, Wilmington, North Carolina, you can pick your own berries and sample homemade strawberry or blueberry ice cream and shortcake made with Southern-style biscuits through mid-July.
Farmer’s Markets are another great place to sample local produce, herbs, and baked goods. This spring and summer there are four weekly farmer’s markets to choose from: the Riverfront Farmer’s Market held each Saturday morning in Downtown Wilmington (this Saturday, April 17, 2010, through December 18, 2010); Carolina Beach Farmer’s Market & Art Show held Saturday mornings at Carolina Beach Lake, North Carolina (April 24, 2010, through October 9, 2010; Wrightsville Beach Farmer’s Market on Monday mornings (May 3 through September 27, 2010) beside the Post Office at Causeway Drive, Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, and the Poplar Grove Farmer’s Market held Wednesday mornings in nearby Scotts Hill, North Carolina (now through December 15, 2010).
