And, now for the answer to the question you’re dying to ask: What’s Buckhead? Once a town annexed in 1952 by the City of Atlanta, Buckhead is a district of some 28 square miles in Northeast Atlanta and home to more than 100,000 residents. It is legally defined as that portion of Atlanta northwest of Interstate 85 and northeast of Interstate 75. The area was named Buckhead in 1838 when Henry Irby, who purchased Buckhead’s original 203 acres in the early 1800s, marked his general store and with the head of a large buck deer. Did you know that Buckhead has 12 street names that include the word “Peachtree.”? Yep! The Georgia State Fruit is indeed the peach!
