Chicago-Bound? Check Out Farmstand in the Loop

Victorian SconesFarmers’ Markets aren’t just for seasonal produce any more. The Farmstand in the Loop, 66 East Randolph Street, Chicago, Illinois, will be featuring a different local baker or confectioner from noon to 2 p.m. every weekday from December 1 to 23, 2009, during the Holiday Sweets Fest. Sure, parking in downtown Chicago is a nightmare, but if there are two of you in that car, one can hop out and pick up some holiday treats, Road Trips Foodie, while the driver endlessly circles the block, cursing the holiday traffic. I mean, who can resist such a tempting array of cookies, cakes, cupcakes, muffins, scones, pies, cheesecake and candy!

Here’s the calendar (although swinging by ‘most any day would be delightful):
December 1 – First Slice Pie Café – Various Cookies: Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate Chip Lake Bar, and Everything Cookie.
December 2 – Sweet Miss Giving’s – Red Velvet Cupcakes and Pecan Bars.
December 3 – Floriole – Shortbread Cookies, Fruit Galetes, Pumpkin Muffins, and Toffee.
December 4 – Victorian House Scones – Scones (pictured, above left).
December 7 – Meena Beyers – Decorated Cookies: Butter Cookies with Winter themes including Ice Skates, Mittens and Snow Flakes.
December 8 – Rich Chocolates & Candy – Caramel Corn, Turtles, and Chocolate Bark.
December 9 – Sweet Girl Desserts – Chocolate Mousse.
December 10 – Terry’s Toffee – Mazel Toffee, Chai-Cago Spice Toffee, McCall’s Classic Toffee, and Peppermint Pistachio Crunch Toffee.
Delightful PastriesDecember 11 – Delightful Pastries – Kolachki, Paradise Brownies, and Poppyseed Strudel (pictured, at righ).
December 14 – Sweet Considerations – Ginger Snaps, Oatmeal Cookies, Chocolate Fudge Brownies, and Butterscotch Blondies.
December 15 – Tiny Cakes – Vegan Double Chocolate Hazel Nut Cookies, Vegan Dark Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies, and Lemon Pistachio Shortbread Cookies.
December 16 – Middle East Bakery & Grocery – Baklava.
December 17 – B. True Bakery – 12pm to 2pm – Dark Chocolate Coconut Walnut Cookies and Apricot Ginger Cookies.
December 18 – Potters Crackers – 12pm to 2pm – Various flavors of Graham Crackers.

December 22 – Misericordia Hearts and Flour Bakery – Lemon Bread, Pumpkin Ginger Bread, Zuchinni Bread, Sour Cream Cinnamon Bread, Sugar Free Butter Cookies, and Flourless Chocolate Walnut Cookies.
December 23 – Sweet Cheeks – Flan and Cheesecake.

Chicago’s Downtown Farmstand offers food grown or produced within 250 miles of Chicago including fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs in season; a full range of condiments, preserves, seasonings and other dry goods items; locally-produced ethnic foods; baked goods, and other seasonal items when available. Note: Chicago’s Downtown Farmstand will be closed for its annual winter break beginning Thursday, December 24, 2009, and will reopen on Monday, January 11, 2010.
